This perforated tympanic membrane has been photographed with a KARL STORZ Hopkins Rod Teleotoscope inserted via a hole drilled at right angles to the plane of the tympanic membrane.
The true size and shape of the perforation can now be appreciated. The discrepancy between apparent otoscopic dimensions and true size becomes clinically significant during tympanoplastic grafting of the perforation.
