Description : The most common otosurgical procedure currently performed on children today is the insertion of such an artificial ventilation tube into the tympanic membrane through a myringotomy incision.

A multitude of tubes made in different designs and from several materials have appeared in the last 30 years. Many of these tubes are named after their inventors, and these tubes are called "designer tubes":
