TUBE GRANULOMA:
INTRODUCTION 3

Description : The implantation of surface keratin into the dermis provokes a chronic foreign-body type of granulomatous reaction.

The most common clinical symptom of a tube granuloma is a painless, profuse otorrhea caused by weeping from the infected surface of the granulation tissue.

Examination of the ear through the microscope and debridement with microsuction is often necessary to remove the mucopurulent material from the external ear canal to allow visualization of the granuloma.

Less commonly there may be a spontaneous, painless bloody discharge from the ear canal.
