The normal glomus body is a small, ovoid or flattened structure measuring between 0.25 and 0.50 mm in size, which consists of polygonal epithelial-like chief or glomus cells and supporting or sustentacular cells.
Under the electron microscope, the chief cells contain numerous dark stained, electron dense, neurosecretory granules.
Nerve fibers, vessels, and pericytes are also present in the connective tissue which binds the chief cells together. |
