TEMPORAL BONE FRACTURE:
ANTERIOR CANAL WALL
| Description |
: |
The large displaced piece of bone protruding from the anterior bony canal wall of this patient's right ear is the result of a longitudinal temporal bone fracture.
As this displaced piece of bone is not responsible for any symptoms nothing further needs to be done except for documenting the fracture and explaining to the patient that he does have an irregularity of the bony external auditory canal and that he might find it useful to inform any physician who is examining his ears.
It is very helpful to know that such an irregularity exists so that if this patient requires debridement of cerumen or debris so that the physician can avoid inadvertently traumatizing the skin over the bony fragment. |
